The Benefits of Using Google Drive for Your Business

Google Drive is a free suite of programs that is available completely online. (Limited online access is available as well.)

The primary programs available in Google Drive include:
  • Docs   : A word processing program
  • Sheets: A spreadsheet program
  • Slides : A presentation program
  • Forms : The ability to create forms (e.g. surveys) that people can fill out. You can embed the forms on any website or blog, and can also just send people a link to them. When the forms are filled out, the information ends up on a Google spreadsheet.
In addition to the above, you can upload many different file types such as images, audio and video files, and so on.

Also, although not technically a part of Drive, other Google applications such as Gmail and Google Calendar are available in the same ecosystem, and when logged in to any of them, with a single click you can access the other programs without having to log in again.

  1. ) As is true with all cloud based applications, you can access everything from any computer, so long as you have an Internet connection.
  1. ) The programs are easy to use, and are a great option if you need “Office like” programs where you can purchase them.
  1. ) Programs on Google Drive are great for collaboration.

Here are a few ways you can use them for collaboration:
  • Share docs, spreadsheets and other items with clients and team members
  • When you share documents, you can share them with anyone who has the link, or you can only allow access to specific people.
  • You can choose to allow read-only access, or give specific individuals permission to edit documents.
  • Multiple people can edit documents simultaneously. You can easily see who is editing a document, and even have live chats with others who are working on the documents the same time as you.
  • Team members or clients can leave comments on documents. This is a great feature if you want to get feedback on what you’re working on, or buy in from a client before you finalize a project.
  1. ) Google Drive comes with ample storage (currently 15 GB) for free. This means you can    store a lot of files without running out of space. In addition to that, documents that you  actually create from within Drive don’t count against your storage limit.
  2. ) Since Google Drive is so popular, it integrates with many other programs, which adds to   the convenience factor.
